On May 15, 2015, Art Start and Apple Arts will merge, in a collaborative and strategic move to serve more of New York City’s children, more agencies where those children live, and increase resource efficiency for both organizations.

Founded in 2007, “Apple Arts was born at Art Start and returning to its origins will enable both organizations to work together on behalf of New York City communities who need us most,” said Margot Liebman who has played multiple roles including program director at Art Start (2000-2005), executive director of Apple Arts (2010-2013), and now Art Start board member. “Joining forces makes a lot of sense and I’m excited by the potential of the partnership,” she said. Margot is one of two board members who will transition to Art Start.

Gavin Blair, president of Apple Arts, will also join the board of Art Start. “We’re stronger together and I am looking forward to serving the children of the city with such a well respected organization.”

Art Start is committed to sustaining existing Apple Arts programming through 2016 and looks forward to building sustainability around it for the long-term. Johanna De Los Santos, Co-Executive Director of Art Start, said “The merger of Apple Arts and Art Start brings tremendous potential to sustain our creative arts workshops in multiple shelters across the city for years to come. We’re beyond excited to welcome Danny, Margot and Gavin back to the Art Start family where, together, we will engage an even broader community of homeless families, teaching artists and supporters.”
