JOB POSTING:  Part-Time Development & Marketing Manager


Art Start is an award-winning, nationally-recognized New York City arts-based non-profit organization that uses the creative process to connect with underserved youth for the purpose of personal development.


The Marketing and Development Manager will project lead and collaborate with Art Start Co-Executive Directors and other team members on the following:




In partnership with Art Start’s Co-Executive Directors, utilize creative passion and talent to:

  • Represent the Art Start brand/identity and tell our overall brand/identity story

  • Implement a social strategy for the organization to showcase Art Start's work with young people

  • Execute strategic outreach/follow-up with target audiences

  • Encourage donations and engagement from mid-tier donors.

  • Build and execute campaigns, including Art Start advocacy campaigns and our on-going Monthly Donor Campaign


In partnership with in-house graphic designer & videographers

  • Create content for individual donor fundraising strategy and marketing materials, with a heavy emphasis on strength-based storytelling

    • Peer fundraising campaigns (

  • Direct mail

  • Art Start original publications

  • Email marketing (Mailchimp)

  • Social Media posting


Update, maintain and utilize data in fundraising software (Classy) and CRM (Salesforce)

  • Write/Call with acknowledgements to online and check-based donors, vetting for follow up



Alongside the Co-Executive Directors:

  • Develop strategic road map for fund raising initiatives

  • Drive deadlines and hold team members accountable for their contributions

  • Utilizing existing templates with some updates, write letters of interest and grant proposals for targeted foundation prospects

  • Provide follow up and support for reports for current foundation funders, with an emphasis on strength-based storytelling, content-based visual storytelling and evaluation data.

  • Research and pursue grant opportunities, large and small




Qualities in a great candidate

  • NYC-based

  • Bachelor Degree

  • 3-5 years professional employment experience in the field of marketing or non-profit development

  • Tech-Savvy and Resourceful

  • Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

  • Passionate about marketing and development strategy.

  • Great writer. Knows their grammar and can tell our story

  • Believes in the arts to change lives

  • Accountable, responsible, honest, helpful

  • Flexible and Adaptive: Understanding of the unique challenges of the nonprofit sector

  • Very strong work ethic

  • Must enjoy teamwork and collaborating with colleagues

  • Able to meet deadlines independently


Experience working or volunteering with underserved youth a plus!


We are looking for mid-level candidates with professional experience in some of the following areas:

  • Non-Profit development planning, including foundation funding, corporate partnerships, and individual donor management

  • Content-Based Marketing

  • Technology-based fundraising

  • Copy editing, graphic design, photography, video editing

  • Solid, consistent, project-driven employment

  • SquareSpace, Salesforce, Classy, Mailchimp, Google Drive,



  • $24,000-$26,000 annual base salary (Part-Time, 20-25 hours per week, W-2, Exempt)
