About The Program:

The Artist Statement is an interdisciplinary public art project that honors the creative identifies of Milwaukee youth artists. Participants will explore their personal identities and narratives to develop their written artist statement, which they will then bring off the page through integrated visual and performance art techniques. The project will culminate in an immersive, multimedia group exhibition at Art Start Studios in Milwaukee, showcasing students’ surrealist mixed-media collage portraits and original performance art pieces.

The Artist Statement is accepting participants for two cohorts taking place during Summer 2025.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the program, you must be:

• Ages: 14-24
  
• Based in Milwaukee
• All artistic backgrounds & disciplines welcome
  

Programming Dates:

Summer Cohort I (at Art Start):

• June 9 - July 30, 2025
  
• Mon and Weds, 5:30-7:30pm

Summer Cohort II (at Peak Initiative)

• June 17 - July 31, 2025
• Tues and Thurs, 3:00-5:00pm

Payment:

• $100 stipend per participant upon program completion
